“Discover”ing credit card theft
Well, I am now a statistic. It seems someone got a hold of my Discover Card number and made over $500 worth of purchases last month to a bunch of internet sites. I immediately called Discover Card and told them about the charges and amazingly we straighten everything out and had all the charges cleared off my account in about 3 minutes… praise God!
It’s also worth mentioning that a few of the companies like Amazon and Network Solutions actually credited the charges someone made back to my account before I even knew the card had been used. I guess they somehow knew the card was stolen already. Amazon actually sent me an email letting me know someone had used my credit card and recommended I cancel the card… pretty neat.
I’m not quite sure how my credit card number got out in the open because I haven’t really used that card for a while. No one in South Africa takes Discover Card so I can’t really pin it on anything that happened here. Whatever the case everything seemed to work out in the end, but I’m going to try and be a bit more careful so there isn’t a next time.
