Why Google is smarter than me

Saturday, March 18

Well, it’s everyone favorite time of the year…. tax season. I know I’m starting a bit late. For the last couple years I was always able to fill them online with relative ease, but this year has proved to be a bit trickier. You see all the finances I recieved from WME is considered income that I didn’t paid any taxes on so Uncle Sam is going to want a piece of it. Luckly, I found a great accountant who is going to take care of my return I just needed to get a few things. One being my 2004 tax return. That shouldn’t be too hard since I did it online so I should have an email in Outlook somewhere, right…. NO. Man, I looked and searched through my Deleted Items that went all the way back to 2003, but there was not record of anything. At that point I got a bit concerned because there was also a change I didn’t have a hard copy at my house in Jacksonville. After all I’m a single guy who doesn’t always give these things the importance they deserve and could have easily not made a copy.

Well, since I did my taxes online, but didn’t have any idea what website I used I found myself at the IRS website clicking on all the links they had for companys that offer filing taxes online. I would go to each site and try and log in to see if I had an account with them. I tried that at 10 different websites before I decided to give up on that.

Then it hit me, if I managed to use my gmail email address there might be some type confirmation somewhere because Gmail saves all your emails. Sure enough, email number 546 was an email confirming my account setup with Turbo Tax. Praise God! So I went to their website logged in and downloaded my 2004 return.

I never really appreciated the idea Gmail keeping all my emails until now.
