Youth Camps, Youth Camps, Youth Camps

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

The past couple weeks we all knew this day would come, but tomorrow is the big day that we start our Youth Camps. Even though we started preparing weeks in advance there are still 3 of us in the office at 11 PM the night before the kids start to arrive trying to finish up everything we’ll need to get us through the next 6 days. Last year there was only one camp, but due to huge demand (last year they actually had to stop kids from getting on the busses in town) we’ve added another camp. So now we’re going to have 2 camps back to back with 150 kids at each camp.

We’ve set up some pretty fun actitivities while the kids are here. They’ll be playing Volleyball, shooting bow and arrows, wall climbing, and launching water ballons. Any kid from the US would have a blast at this camp, so just think how an Africa kid is going to react when they get to play PlayStation2 on a 10 foot screen.

Apart from the activities these kids will attend daily sessions that will challenge them to dig deeper or even begin a relationship with God. Please be praying for the hearts for these kids that God would use this time to speak to them and draw them closer to Him. While you’re at it you can also pray for the Thrive Africa staff that no matter how tired we get this week that we’ll wake up every morning with a passion to show these kids that Christ loves them and that He has a great plan for their lives.

Teaching in Qwa-Qwa

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Twice a week I’ll be going into the city of Qwa-Qwa to do some teachings for our LauchPad classes. On Tuesday’s I’ll be going through the book, “An Ordinary Day with Jesus” and on Thursdays I’ll be helping out with another book called, “Contagious Christian”. I’m excited to get out from behind my computer twice a week and start investing in the lives of the people of Qwa-Qwa.
