Hangin’ Around

Monday, January 31st, 2005

No, it’s not what you think. During the week I had planned on leaving Africa Thrive is taking everyone to Cape Town to serve along side a different ministry. It’s a great opportunity for me to experience another ministry in South Africa… and see more of the country. The Cape Town trip is two weeks long and if I went I would miss my flight out of Johannesburg. Since it sounds like such a great trip I’ve decided to push back my trip home for a week. Now, I will be leaving Africa on April 1 instead of the March 22.

I guess the bad part of all this is that I will miss Easter with my family. Why the heck is Easter in March this year?

No Apple in Africa

So I launch iTunes today and I’m surprised to see that I will not be able to buy any music from their music store. Not that I could download a 3 MG file from my dial up connection, but it would be nice to have option. When I’m on the internet I sometimes feel I can do everything I did from home, but its times like this that I’m reminded that I’m in a totally different country.

If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down.

Not too often do I come across something that simply makes me laugh out loud, but this is good stuff. There are signs like this posted in some of the rooms here. I’ll give you one guess where that might be.

Not a bad view

Sorry, I haven’t been updating my blog, but the internet is not so good here. They pay for a 56K dial-up connection, but it’s more like a 10K connection. With the internet as slow as it is I have yet to be to log into my Instant Messenger account until now, but it’s 9:00 AM here which means it’s 2:00 AM where all my friends are. Kevin Finn was my only hope for people who might be up at this hour, but unfortunalty he is not. As for email, let’s just say until today the Google logo is too much for me to download.

So far things have been pretty busy. I arrived at Thrive Africa around 5:30 PM, which is about 24 hours after I left Jacksonville. I had quick dinner at 6:30 and hit the sac around 8:30. After about an 11 hour night sleep I woke up to a pretty awesome view out side my window. Neil took us on a road trip to see the city of Qwa-Qwa and it brought back some fond memories Anyways, Africa is still looks just as awesome as it did when I let, yet this is rainy season so they tell me it will be raining a lot. I guess not to different from Florida.

Bye for now. It’s time for me to go to work.

Dave is Safe and Sound

I got a call from Dave and he is safe in South Africa. Unfortunately, his Internet is pretty bad right now so he hasn’t been able to make an update. He just wanted me to drop everyone an update! — TOM

Goodbye America

Last time I flew to Africa I decided to stay up the whole night and not sleep until the plane. Well, needless to say the plan didn’t work; I slept a total of 30 minutes on the 20 hour fligh. So why the heck am I up at

1:30 AM when I have to be at the airport 5:30 AM.

I hope I set my TiVo to record 24 while I’m gone.

Stepping Up!

This whole “asking people for money thing” is quite new to me, but so far I like what I see. I’m proud to say that we have raised over $1,150 for the soccer league uniforms to date. I can’t begin to tell you how much of an impact this is going to make in the area.
